He was telling me that the dealers on his site who have been using video, were able to keep visitors on the page longer than the dealers without video. The problem with this is that it reminds me of a conversation I had with the waitress at a diner a few years back. She was complaining that the diner gives free re-fills on coffee. Basically, she was upset that the free refills were enticing  people to sit in the booth longer, but they weren’t spending any more money. And that was costing her money.

I am a huge believer in the power of automotive  video marketing as a sales tool. But it must be used as a sales tool. Auto dealers are all jumping on board the video train right now as they should. But they are going about it the wrong way. Slapping together an automated video consisting of pictures of the car already on the site, with cheesy music and and a bad computerized voice over adds no value to the car shopper. Sure people might be on the site longer, but so what? If it is not selling more cars, or at least the car in question, is it really worth having?  Your used car videos should be compelling. Should tell a story about the car. Should show the car in action and should be REAL. With those elements in place on your videos, your videos will SELL CARS.
